A Turned Backstool

Materials: American Black Walnut

A second backstool made in the style of a 16th/17th century triangle chair. Most backstools of this type have flat backrests rather than turned ones; however, they do appear in late 16th/early 17th century Flemish paintings. I found the diagonal supports for the backrest the most challengin part of the project; boring diagonal holes into two cylinders so that the align correctly was nerve wracking. Making a cardboard jig helps.

Finished with linseed oil and beeswax. For more information, click here.
